Aussie-noir…

Thoroughly enjoying watching ‘Big Little Lies’ at the moment – I feel it’s ideally savoured with a mild hangover, just to intensify the dark strands running through it. After observing both my wife and mum avidly reading ‘The Dry’ over the summer holidays, and having just heard that ‘The Cry’ has been green-lit as a TV series, I think it’s safe to conclude there’s a bit of a boom going on in Aussie crime writing. I wonder if there’s a connection to the fact that Australia is often held up as a model society – strong economy, loads of people wanting to move there, Melbourne regularly topping the Best Cities charts etc. Scandi-noir seemed to thrive on showing the world that all was not as perfect in society as appeared. Is Aussie-noir a response to the same?
